Kirby (Kirby Series)
Kirby is the main character of Nintendo’s Kirby series of video games. He is a small pink ball with a happy-go-lucky attitude and the ability to copy the abilities of his enemies.
This post focuses more on Kirby’s progression as a series than as a character. Kirby as a character has remained consistently one-note as a naive, innocent, and gluttonous child. What is interesting about Kirby’s development has been the various plots of his games. Kirby started as a simple blob, questing to stop a greedy king, King Dedede, from claiming all the food in “Dreamland.” However, as his games develop and progress, Kirby faces more insidious threats. A being known as “Dark Matter” makes its presence known, slowly being revealed to be behind numerous problems that Kirby faces. This lore is vague and hidden, just barely being implied at all. Unlike Adventure Time, which has a colourful and friendly exterior that conceals a dark history that is slowly explored during the series, Kirby's lore is likely never going to be explored. The eldritch beings that he faces will remain as impossible to understand as they should be, both to emphasise the impossibility of comprehension, and to illustrate Kirby’s lack of interest in doing so.
